What makes a good teacher?

Sir Michael Wilshaw, the schools’ inspections chief has said what he thinks in an interview recently.  To provide a quick summary:

  • Not to a formula
  • Good planning (but not necessarily through a lesson plan)
  • Reactive to pupils needs
  • “Nothing is taught unless it is learned” (frequent learning checks)
  • Ability to pick out the inattentive child
