Consumer previews of Windows 8 are being shipped (this is the beta test phase), the full release is expected to be arriving in October (Bloomberg).
New laptops and tablets will be released to go along with the new OS with a few being powered by ARM chips (I still loved the Archimedes), though I think that maybe the new ‘Metro’ Interface is going to be very different to RiscOS
I can’t yet see how this will pan out for school use but I do wonder whether touch screens are going to be a critical requirement in the future.
Yesterday I was having a debate with a school about ‘going iPad’ in September – My advice was to never follow the technology ‘cus it changes.
PS Don’t forget that Office 15 (probably to be called Office 2012 (not 2013 surely?) is now on technical preview. Much more cloud integration particularly with Sharepoint, Exchange, Lync etc.
