Steve Jobs

Just wanted to add my small voice to the chorus of “Thank you for Steve Jobs”.  There are many different ‘lenses’ to view Steve and his achievements but today (and possibly overall) I think that there is more to be thankful for than critical of.

Without getting too gushing I want to say that I really appreciate the design aesthetic that he brought to a drab world – that really delicate balance between function an form.

Overall I can’t claim to be a huge fan of Apple but I do really appreciate the aspiration to excellence and the individualism that says that we don’t all have to be like ‘Windows’.

As well as Apple – Steve was a key player in Lucas Arts, Pixar Studios, Walt Disney and of course founded the NeXT company (that made the first www server and the precursor to OSX and the App Store).  Most of all though – thinking about the end user and making things we want to use.  Maybe the greatest exponent of a sense of ‘Audience and Purpose’.

Of all the glowing tributes I’d like to single out that of Larry Page: “He always seemed to be able to say in very few words what you actually should have been thinking before you thought it”.
