The Badge Project

The Mozilla organisation has developed an open source solution to the problem of getting recognition for your skills and achievements, called the Open Badge project.

Basically an authorising body (a business, school, community) establishes ‘Badges’ that can be earned.  The criteria are clearly set out on their site – including the assessment.  The individual finds the badge that they like and completes the work necessary, they then ensure that they get assessed.

Once the assessment is complete the individual is given their ‘badge’.  The badge is authenticated against the authorising body and can be displayed on all electronic systems (phone, facebook etc).  The individual badge always links back to the original badge design so that anyone interested can see the exact detail of the badge requirements.

There is SO much scope for this, I wonder where it might go next?
