It may be best to become an ostrich for a short time ….

There has been a LOT of work on data security since a number of high profile leeks have hit the press over recent months.  There is a stack of reading and distilling to be done but the bottom line is that data must be made more secure.

The guidance/rules apply to paper and electronic data and some seem quite a shift from current practice including:

Note that if your school does not have encryption now, you should stop all copying, removing or accessing protected data until you have software to encrypt files and protect the communication links accessing this data.

The article below may be a little worrying to read, I’m sure we’ll see a calm and rational guide in the near future.
