Free Phone calls (again)

A femtocell is essentially a very low-powered mobile phone base station, which consumers can place in their home. When connected to a broadband line, it can allow a mobile user to make free calls while at home from their existing handset.

Femtocells are being backed by Cisco, Intel (and others).

Google has invested in a rival femtocell business called Ubiquisys, based in Swindon, which intends to manufacture its products in a former Sony plant in south Wales. Tags: ,,,,,
