I frequently forget about Project Gutenburg so I thought I’d remind everyone.
With over 22,000 downloadable books it’s an excellent resource if you are looking for that short passage or reference. Personally I don’t think I’ll be reading many full novels on my laptop but some of the e=books and e-paper projects look promising.
Also if you are working on a book in class and pupils have it on their network then there is a backup in place if they forget their books – naturally those with personal laptops (eg Asus EeePCs) can have 1000s of books to hand.
Note that most are out of copyright (so pre 1923),Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Mark Twain, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Joseph Conrad, HG Wells, William Shakespeare and many others, going back through Beowulf to Plato should be fine.
