Hi Bob,

I am writing to inform you of the Dell sponsored “Where Do You Like to Learn” contest, a children’s photography competition that celebrates the digitally connected world we live in. I think it may be of interest to your readers/followers.

As you know, knowledge these days can be shared from anywhere, anytime and any device. The competition is looking for inspirational and creative photographs of the widely varied places where school students can now benefit from technology in the 21st century to quench their thirst for knowledge, be it their garden, the park, a tree house – and far beyond the traditional classroom setting.

Check out the post on Dell’s K12 education blog edu4U Mark Horan, vice president and general manager of Dell's K12 education business, tells us all we need know about the contest. The winner for the best photo will get a Latitude 2100 netbook and a tablet PC and projector for his or her classroom.

Our students today are preparing to live in a world that few of us can visualize, employed in jobs that may not even exist at the moment. Help us celebrate the connected world and spread the word by posting this link the edu4U site on your blog.

Thanks in advance – we look forward to hearing back.

Best,

Morning Bob,
Just been reading about Google Wave - don't know if you have taken a look yet - looks awesome for classroom / multi school communication. Not sure when it goes past beta but looks promising.

The problem with DiDA is not that it's explicitly problem solving, but that it's an absolute nightmare to try and mark. It's a frustrating and badly organised course, or at least it was - we dropped it after the first cohort.

Having attended the Edexcel session on the new GCSE, they have failed to provide any sample materials - assessments, draft specification, no detail at all.

I'm glad you found the post useful though.

Thanks Bob!

£314 is quite high, but I did notice that that's a 3 year warranty, which is pretty good, and only an additional £8 to add in a camera.

Lots of the schools working with us are telling me about how much they use the camera in teaching and learning, particularly with KS1 -3, so I'd suggest that on whatever device you choose, it's worth considering that as an add-in.

Asus have their Aspire 1s for £179 currently

OK - it's 8" rather than 10 but better spec other than that I think. Doesn't have blootooth (if that is important to you). I think that there is a 6 cell battery available for this unit somewhere.

WOW. £314 seems a bit steep.

Spec looks to be a 1.6Ghz Atom with 512 Mb RAM. Hard drive seems to be selectable - so maybe an extra cost?

Doesn't seem to be particularly high spec ... hummm..

Thanks for commenting Lucy.

We do have some schools (in Wiltshire) working with the e-learningfoundation and the feedback seems very positive. It certainly seems like a really good way forward and - as you say - netbooks seem to be a cost effective solution.

Keep up the good work - it is appreciated
